AwareFashion Shirt detects presence of mobile phones
Richard Etter, Diana Grathwohl and Sigmund Homolya have designed a shirt that senses the presence of mobile phones as part of their AwareFashion concept.
According to the project “Communication technology becomes smaller, wireless and invisible. The consequence is that communication technology is omnipresent, but we lack of means to be aware of it.” AwareFashion is supposed to equip its wearer with means to sense and detect the surrounding technology, essentially giving us another dimension of perception, a “6th sense”.
The AwareFashion Shirt 1.0 might look like a normal shirt, but put a mobile phone in its proximity and fibre optics in the cuff of the shirt start to glow, discretely informing its wearer about the presence of the mobile device.
The technology that picks up mobile phones, an antenna and a circuit board have been integrated into a pouch that can be attached to the arm of the shirt via press studs, allowing the electrical components to be removed so that it can be washed like a normal shirt.
